![]() ![]() Players earn in-match credits during matches for killing enemies, repairing structures or capturing objectives. Hi-Rez will also sell cosmetic items such as player skins, along with boosters that allow players to gain experience points at a faster rate. Players will be given 3 free loadouts: the Pathfinder, Soldier, and Juggernaut, when they first start playing the game, each wearing light, medium and heavy armor respectively. Upgrades to armor, weapons and perks can only be purchased by experience points. Paid-for loadouts will be available to the user instantly, while those who choose to unlock them through playing will have a much longer wait. Loadouts may be acquired either through an upfront payment, or through playing the game and earning experience, which can be used to purchase classes, weapons, perks and upgrades. Players can select which loadout to use either when first joining a game, respawning or at an inventory station. There are three possible sizes of armor to choose: light, medium and heavy, with 3 loadouts in each weight group, for a total of 9. ![]() Each loadout supports two in-hand weapons, a set of belt items such as grenades or mines and a pack. Each loadout specifies what type of armor the player has, along with what weapons and items they carry. I am just not sure Dynamix ever really understood what they did wrong that turned out to be right in Tribes 1.Tribes: Ascend features a class-based loadout system. If ANYONE can put together a game with the things that made T1 special, I don't care who it is. Also, while I'm also excited about Firefall, it has always looked more like T2 both graphically and in play to me. To this end, I actually feel like Vengeance "just got it", way more than Tribes 2 ever did, but it still was no T1. Tribes 2 seemed to be pushing the focus back on indoor/ground combat, with jetpacks being more like the jump jets in mechwarrior. The jetpack was more as a means of assistance for navigation than actually as your primary game defining item. Plasma rifles, shield packs (to a significantly lesser degree), etc. In the game that developed, something like, 1/3 - 1/2 of the items and maps were never(rarely) used. Tribes 1 as played was more due to the glitch that was skiing. Tribes 1 as designed was actually pretty close to Tribes 2. With all due respect, and bear in mind I absolutely LOVED tribes 1, but this is some pretty revisionist history. ![]()
